Electron Microprobe Laboratory
 

Our laboratory consists of the following:

  • An automated Cameca Camebax MBX Electron Microprobe equipped with 4 WDX X-ray Spectrometers
  • EDX X-ray Spectrometer
  • Lamont BSE detector
  • Bausch and Lomb Cathodoluminescence System
  • 4Pi X-ray and Digital Imaging System

Qualitative and quantitative electron microprobe x-ray analysis (EMPA) of minerals, including:

  • Common rock-forming minerals
  • Silicates and carbonates
  • Sulphides and precious metal minerals
  • Kimberlite indicator minerals
  • Rare earth element (REE) minerals
  • Rare metal minerals
  • Super alloys

Imaging techniques:

  • Backscattered electron imaging (BSE)
  • Cathode-luminescence imaging (CL)

The electron microprobe is available to researchers across disciplines from academia, government and industry.
