Explore Geoheritage Day

Sunday, October 21, 2012 from 10:00am to 3:00pm

Did you know:

In the last 2 billion years the Ottawa Valley has been a huge mountain chain, a tropical beach, habitat for whales and buried under 2 kilometers of Ice?

Once again, we invite you to come out and see where the rocks in your backyard fit in!   Join volunteers from Carleton University's Earth Science Department and the Ottawa Gatineau Geoheritage Project at your local parks, school yards and green spaces to learn how geological processes have shaped the regional landscape and provided resources for our use.

This year's sites include:

  • Champlain Lookout, Gatineau Park
  • Champlain Bridge Stromatolites, Gatineau
  • Brebeuf Park, Gatineau
  • Hogs Back Park, Ottawa
  • Billings Estate National Historic Site, Ottawa
  • Carp Ridge Hike, Morgan's Grant, Kanata
  • Cardinal Creek Karst, Orleans

This event is part of National Science and Technology Week.
