Lianna Vice in the field

Lianna Vice in the field

Congratulations to senior Earth Sciences student Lianna Vice, who has been chosen to represent Carleton at the 2015 Student-Industry Mineral Exploration Workshop (S-IMEW). This is a fantastic opportunity to learn first-hand about the mineral exploration industry, beyond what is possible in the classroom. Lianna is one of 26 successful candidates from across the country.

This workshop is scheduled to run from May 1st to 15th inclusive. The first week will be held at College Boreal in Sudbury. Students will attend lectures and presentations, and partcipate in practical demonstrations on topics such as mineral deposits, health and safety and corporate responsibility. During the second week, the students will take a field trip to the Abitibi Greenstone Belt. They will learn about the geology specific to this region and go on a tour of the Noranda camp in Quebec.

The students attending this workshop have been identified as future leaders in the industry. Lianna follows in the footsteps of current M.Sc. students Tim Chadwick and Dusty Liikane, who attended this workshop in 2014 and 2013, respectively.
