Alumnus Matthew Hanewich employed by the OGS

Alumnus Matthew Hanewich (B.Sc.H. Earth Sciences, 2015) is working as a Junior Geologist for the Ontario Geological Survey this summer. He is stationed in Terrace Bay, ON, which is situated on the north shore of Lake Superior. He reports directly to Seamus Magnus, an alumnus of our Master's program.

Part of Matt's duties include collecting and organizing magnetic susceptibility data. He helps in describing mineralogy and taking structural measurements of different rock types which are part of a greenstone belt. He gets to map some parts by himself - given a big rock outcrop, he prints off the existing map, draws in all of the structural details, and produces a detailed geological map of the area.

At the end of the day, everyone on his team lives together in a log cabin. All in all, it sounds like a dream come true for a new grad in earth sciences!
