Inspecting a sample

This past weekend, Chris Rogers, instructor for ERTH 1009, took some of his students to the Bancroft Rockhound Gemboree. It was a great opportunity to purchase some excellent examples of the minerals seen in the laboratory, as well as some more exotic specimens.  In addition to seeing rocks, minerals and fossils from around the world, we were able to learn how to pan for gold.

After we finished adding to our personal collections, we then visited the Princess Sodalite Mine Rock Shop. Here we were able to go into the back and search for additional interesting and varied rock and mineral specimens from several of the local mines in the area. Needless to say, we left considerably heavier than when we arrived! A lively discussion of the local rocks and minerals ended with us deciding another trip to the area was to be arranged for early fall.

A great time was had by all!
